The anime style
Cel-shaded skies, hard-edged light, saturated gradients. The look most roleplay servers aimed at a younger audience ask for.
Anime plates trade depth for legibility, and at small sizes that trade pays. Hard-edged shapes and high-chroma gradients survive a 468x60 crop and a 300x300 downscale far better than a photographic scene does, because there is no fine detail to lose.
They are also the most distinctive in a server browser full of dark photographic strips. That is the point and the risk: a server that goes anime is making a claim about its audience, and the branding will read as that claim whether or not the roleplay matches it.
The one technical note: cel shading produces large flat areas and hard edges, which is the worst case for GIF dithering. The animated exports use a tighter palette and gentler dither for anime plates to stop banding appearing across the sky.
The rain alley scene
A narrow alley in heavy rain, light bouncing off every wet surface.
Narrow and vertical, which is the hardest shape to crop to a 17:1 strip, so this family composes its wide formats around the reflected light on the ground rather than the alley itself. The rain effect runs live, so the motion is constant and even rather than a sweep, which reads differently from every other family here.
The same scene is also drawn in grunge, painted and photoreal.
Violet as a server colour
Synthetic and nocturnal, with enough darkness in it to sit behind white lettering.
Violet has the lowest relative luminance of any saturated hue, which has one concrete consequence: white text on a violet fill passes a 4.5 to 1 contrast check easily, where the same text on an equally bright yellow fails. That makes it the easiest accent to build buttons and ribbons from without checking every pairing.
