The anime style
Cel-shaded skies, hard-edged light, saturated gradients. The look most roleplay servers aimed at a younger audience ask for.
Anime plates trade depth for legibility, and at small sizes that trade pays. Hard-edged shapes and high-chroma gradients survive a 468x60 crop and a 300x300 downscale far better than a photographic scene does, because there is no fine detail to lose.
They are also the most distinctive in a server browser full of dark photographic strips. That is the point and the risk: a server that goes anime is making a claim about its audience, and the branding will read as that claim whether or not the roleplay matches it.
The one technical note: cel shading produces large flat areas and hard edges, which is the worst case for GIF dithering. The animated exports use a tighter palette and gentler dither for anime plates to stop banding appearing across the sky.
The port cranes scene
Container cranes against a flat sky, industrial geometry at scale.
Repeating vertical structures with a lot of sky between them, which gives a wide strip plenty of room and a square format a clear subject. Industrial, cold and unromantic. Suits trucking, logistics and crime roleplay far better than city RP, and the strong geometry makes it one of the better families for a 96x96 emblem to sit against.
The same scene is also drawn in grunge, painted and photoreal.
Cyan as a server colour
Cold, technical and very bright, with a warm horizon to stop it feeling clinical.
Cyan has high luminance, so it reads at tiny sizes and fails white-text contrast checks. Use it as the mark and the ribbon rather than as a fill behind text, and pair it with a pale gold horizon so the lettering has somewhere warm to sit. The combination is the most legible in this catalogue at 96 pixels.
