X header, 1500x500

Your own avatar covers the lower left of your header. Every centred wordmark loses to it.

X headers are 1500x500, and what makes them awkward is not the ratio but the avatar. Your profile picture is drawn as a circle overlapping the lower left corner of the header, and on a phone the visible band of the header is shorter than 500 pixels, so the avatar takes a proportionally bigger bite. A design that centres its wordmark has part of it behind the avatar on exactly the device most people are using.

The header in a pack moves the lockup right of centre and keeps the invite in the right third, leaving the lower left as scene. That is a small change that makes the profile look composed rather than cropped, and it costs nothing because the scene fills the space anyway.

X does not animate header images, so this format ships as a still only, rendered at 3000x1000 and delivered at 1500x500 for a clean downscale on high-density displays. If you want motion on X, the square 1080x1080 and vertical 1080x1920 MP4s in the same pack post directly as media.

What goes wrong

The four failures that cost people the most time on this slot.

  • Centring the wordmark, which the avatar covers on mobile
  • Using a 1920x1080 crop, which loses the top and bottom at 3:1
  • Expecting a GIF header to animate
  • Putting the invite on the left, where the avatar sits

Questions about this size

2 answers.

  • What size is an X header image?

1500x500. X crops height on narrow screens and overlaps the lower left with your avatar, so the lockup belongs right of centre.

  • Can an X header be animated?

No. X shows header images as stills. For motion, post the square or vertical MP4 from the same pack as media instead.

Formats that go with it

  • Square social post, 1080x1080

The square feed post is the one you send when applications open, and it is the format most servers never bother to make.

  • YouTube channel art, 2560x1440

YouTube crops channel art four ways. Only the centre 1546x423 survives all of them.

  • Discord profile banner, 680x240

Your profile banner is not your server's banner. It is 680x240, it lives in User Settings, and animating it needs Nitro rather than boosts.
