A minimap that drops into a QBox server

QBox servers are usually the tidiest ones out there: ox_lib, ox_inventory, ox_target and a core that refuses to carry dead weight. A minimap fits that philosophy exactly, because it carries no logic at all. It streams twelve texture dictionaries and sixty-five geometry files, sets the radar zoom levels once on the client, and then does nothing for the rest of the session.

Our picks

What we would run on this kind of server

Three concrete recommendations rather than a shrug — with the reason attached.

Nothing to wire into qbx_core

There is no server script, no event, no export and no shared table. You are not adding a dependency to your core, you are replacing art the game was already loading. That also means a QBox update can never break it.

Where it goes in a QBox resource tree

Most QBox servers keep third party streaming assets in a [standalone] or [maps] bracket. Either works. The only rule is that the folder name matches the ensure line, and that no other resource streams a file called minimap_0_0.ytd.

  • resources/[standalone]/pityus_minimap_.../ — the whole resource
  • ensure pityus_minimap_... in server.cfg, anywhere after the core
  • Stop any other map or HUD resource that also streams minimap textures

Postal codes without a postal resource

If you run the postal codes variant the numbers are part of the texture, so they are visible on the radar and on the pause map with zero runtime cost. A postal script that prints the nearest code in chat still works next to it — the two do not overlap.

Questions

Does it need ox_lib?
No. The resource has no dependency at all. It works on a server with nothing but the FiveM artifact running.
Will a QBox update break it?
It cannot. The resource never touches the core, so there is nothing for an update to change.
Can I brand it with my server logo?
Yes — the studio places your logo and server name on any of the twelve themes and exports the same drop-in resource.
