FiveM animation list

Every animation GTA 5 ships — 19,771 dictionaries and 269,414 clips — searchable by either name, with a working RequestAnimDict and TaskPlayAnim block for whichever one you pick and the flag values spelled out.

Two characters to start

HOW IT WORKS

Four steps, and the two that people skip

Almost every animation that does not play is a missing wait or a flag of 0.

  1. 01 Find the clip

Search by clip name or by dictionary. Both are matched, and dictionary hits come first so you can browse everything inside one.

  2. 02 Load the dictionary

RequestAnimDict(dict), then loop on HasAnimDictLoaded(dict). Never skip the wait.

  3. 03 Play it with the right flag

TaskPlayAnim(ped, dict, clip, 8.0, -8.0, -1, flag, 0.0, false, false, false). The flag decides whether it loops, holds, or plays over movement.

  4. 04 Release it

RemoveAnimDict(dict) once the task is running. The clip keeps playing; the memory goes back.

The shape of it

Client-side. Swap the dictionary and clip for the ones you picked above.

local dict = "amb@world_human_smoking@male@male_a@idle_a"
RequestAnimDict(dict)
while not HasAnimDictLoaded(dict) do
    Wait(0)
end

-- 49 = loop (1) + upper body (16) + secondary (32): the ped can still walk.
TaskPlayAnim(PlayerPedId(), dict, "idle_a", 8.0, -8.0, -1, 49, 0.0, false, false, false)
RemoveAnimDict(dict)

THE FLAG FIELD

Every TaskPlayAnim flag, and what it does

Add the values together. 1 loops, 16 frees the legs, 8 stops the player cancelling it.

ValueNameWhat it does
1ANIM_FLAG_LOOPRepeats until something stops it.
2ANIM_FLAG_STOP_LAST_FRAMEHolds the final pose instead of returning to idle.
4ANIM_FLAG_REPOSITION_WHEN_FINISHEDMoves the ped to where the clip ended.
8ANIM_FLAG_NOT_INTERRUPTABLEThe player cannot cancel it with an input.
16ANIM_FLAG_UPPERBODYPlays on the upper body only, so the ped can still walk.
32ANIM_FLAG_SECONDARYRuns as a secondary task alongside whatever else the ped is doing.
64ANIM_FLAG_REORIENT_WHEN_FINISHEDKeeps the heading the clip ended on.
128ANIM_FLAG_ABORT_ON_PED_MOVEMENTCancels the moment the ped moves.
256ANIM_FLAG_ADDITIVEBlends on top of the current pose rather than replacing it.
512ANIM_FLAG_TURN_OFF_COLLISIONDisables collision for the duration.
1024ANIM_FLAG_OVERRIDE_PHYSICSThe clip drives the ped instead of physics.
2048ANIM_FLAG_IGNORE_GRAVITYGravity stops applying while it plays.
4096ANIM_FLAG_EXTRACT_INITIAL_OFFSETApplies the clip’s own starting offset.
8192ANIM_FLAG_EXIT_AFTER_INTERRUPTEDLeaves the task when interrupted rather than resuming.
16384ANIM_FLAG_TAG_SYNC_INSyncs the entry with the current movement.
32768ANIM_FLAG_TAG_SYNC_OUTSyncs the exit with the following movement.

QUESTIONS

About animations in FiveM

How do I play an animation in FiveM?
Load the dictionary, wait for it, then play the clip. RequestAnimDict(dict), loop on HasAnimDictLoaded(dict) until it returns true, then TaskPlayAnim with the dictionary, the clip name, a blend in and out, a duration and a flag. Calling TaskPlayAnim before the dictionary has loaded is the single most common reason nothing happens.
What does the flag number mean?
It is a bitfield — add the values of the behaviours you want. 1 loops, 2 holds the last frame, 16 plays on the upper body so the ped can still walk, 8 stops the player interrupting it. The usual combinations are 1 for a looping idle and 49 (1 + 16 + 32) for something that plays over walking. The full table is on this page.
What is the difference between a dictionary and a clip?
The dictionary is the file the game streams; the clip is one animation inside it. Both names are needed, and both are case-sensitive in practice even though the natives are forgiving. A dictionary stays in memory until you release it, which is why scripts call RemoveAnimDict once the task is running.
Why does the animation stop as soon as it starts?
Either the duration is 0 instead of -1, or the clip is not looping and the flag does not hold the last frame. Pass -1 for duration to let the clip run to its natural end, and add flag 1 to loop or 2 to hold the final pose.
Where does this list come from?
The publicly published GTA V data dumps, the same source behind this site’s prop, ped and vehicle references. Nothing is invented: a dictionary or clip that is not in the game is not in this list.
